The morning started out very slowly with a much-needed sleep in, followed by a great breakfast of corned beef hash, eggs, and toast expertly made by J. After the long week we had, it was a great relief to have a relaxing morning. Also, I don’t think the neighbors would have appreciated us starting any sooner than we did. Around 10:30 we finally got out and started tilling up the garden.
Then my parents came with their trailer to help return the tiller and we had a great lunch together. Upon returning, we got to planting the plants and seeds that we have been collecting.
In all we planted onions, garlic, lettuce, kale, rainbow carrots, celery, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, black beans, peanuts, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, butternut squash, potatoes, and pumpkins. This all joined the blueberry bush, raspberries and peas that we had already planted.
This is what we have so far. It will look much fuller when the seeds come up.
This was also the day for planting pots. The four terracotta pots hold oregano, thyme, peppermint, and spearmint. These will go in the front flowerbeds and I hope the pots will keep the herbs from taking over the yard.
This is phase one. I will keep you posted and we can find out together how well things grow here. Are you gardening this year and how is it doing?
